Former Penn State Tight End Luke Reynolds Joins Virginia Tech with Key Coaches
The highly touted tight end, Luke Reynolds, has made a significant decision regarding his college football career. With a 'do not contact' tag in place, Reynolds had already made up his mind before entering the transfer portal, and his choice was clear: Virginia Tech.
Reynolds, a former five-star recruit, signed with Penn State in the 2024 class, but now he's heading to the Hokies. This move is not just about a change of scenery; it's a strategic decision fueled by a desire to work with specific coaches.
At the heart of this decision is the reunion with former Nittany Lions tight ends coach, Ty Howle, who is now Virginia Tech's offensive coordinator and tight ends coach. Howle's influence on Reynolds' development was a crucial factor in his decision to commit to Penn State initially.
The offense Howle plans to implement at Virginia Tech mirrors the strategy Penn State employed during James Franklin's tenure, with a strong emphasis on the tight end position.
"The tight end in their offense is a versatile player and a key component of their scheme," Reynolds explained when committing to Penn State. "They are expected to contribute in various ways, which I find exciting."
Standing at 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 253 pounds, Reynolds' athletic build and natural talent were on full display during his high school career. Initially a quarterback, he transitioned to tight end for his senior year at Cheshire (Conn.) Academy, showcasing his adaptability and skill.
In his sophomore year, Reynolds caught 26 passes for 257 yards, building on his freshman season where he caught nine passes for 111 yards and a touchdown. His remaining two years of eligibility will allow him to further showcase his potential.
247Sports director of scouting, Andrew Ivins, highlighted Reynolds' exceptional physical attributes, ranking him as the No. 29 player in the class. "Ascending tight end prospect with the potential to excel in multiple roles due to his agile movement, superior body control, and robust frame," Ivins noted.
Reynolds' decision to join Virginia Tech is a strategic move, combining his desire to work with Howle and the opportunity to contribute to a dynamic offense that values the tight end position.
